Common document reader issues during RFID processing

This article provides information on the most common reasons for document readers (equipped with contact and contactless RFID chip reading functionality) to malfunction.

  • Another Regula reader is located nearby.
Having a second reader in proximity can cause electromagnetic interference, affecting the device’s performance. It is recommended to maintain a distance of at least 20 centimeters (8 inches).

    Example of reader placement

  • The reader is built into a kiosk with a metal enclosure.
Metal structures can shield the signal, reducing the effectiveness of the reader.
  • Sources of radio interference are nearby.
Transmitting devices, such as mobile phones, can create interference that disrupts normal RFID operation.
  • Connected via a USB hub.
This can increase signal loss. Ideally, the device should be connected directly to the motherboard.
  • Other smart card devices are used on the same computer.
Such devices may cause compatibility conflicts and impact the reader’s performance.
